Cross Country Education is seeking a resilient, mission-driven Special Education Teacher (LBS1) to lead a high-impact, self-contained High School classroom in Chicago, IL. Position Overview:
- Manage a self-contained classroom for high school students with mild-to-moderate disabilities, creating a safe space for academic and personal growth.
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) specifically tailored for students with histories of truancy, focusing on realistic goal-setting and consistent progress.
- Utilize flexible, creative instructional strategies to spark curiosity and bring students back into the fold of long-term academic success.
- Work alongside a dedicated team of social workers, attendance coordinators, and paraprofessionals committed to student re-engagement and address external barriers and celebrate every attendance milestone to ensure long-term student success.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Special Education (Required)
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Learning Behavior Specialist I (LBS1) endorsement for the High School Level (Required)
- Experience or a strong desire to work with high-risk urban youth and a deep understanding of the trauma-informed care model
