Position Overview: 

  • Deliver specialized academic instruction and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to a diverse caseload of adjudicated youth within the secure environment of a juvenile detention center.
  • Integrate strong, trauma-informed behavioral management strategies and restorative practices to maintain a safe, structured, and conducive learning environment for students with significant emotional and social needs.
  • Lead student planning and coordination by effectively collaborating with facility staff, probation officers, counselors, and case managers to integrate educational, behavioral, and transitional goals into each student's IEP.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree 
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with a Special Education Endorsement (Required)
  • Experience working with adjudicated youth or students in alternative education, correctional, or high-risk therapeutic settings
